Area Rug and Oriental Cleaning

Let Chem-Dry of Cape Cod help you take care of your area rugs!

You may have a brand new, beautiful area rug.  To keep it looking fresh and new, we recommend an application of Chem-Dry Protectant.  If you have an older area rug, you want it to look the best that it can.  Have Chem-Dry of Cape Cod clean and protect it!  For expert handling of your area rugs, one phone call to Chem-Dry of Cape Cod solves all of your concerns. Please keep in mind that our process is a wet cleaning process, and rugs with certain fibers including but not limited to rayon, viscose, bamboo silk, jute and sisal may not be suitable for it. Feel free to call us if you have any questions.

You may drop off your area rugs for cleaning and protecting at our facility in Harwich, or you may schedule a pick-up.  For a reasonable fee, we pick up and return the area rugs to you.

Upon receipt of your area rugs, we inspect each one for condition, soil levels, wear, fading, spots, stains, odor, pulls, need for repair, etc.  If an area rug is wet upon its arrival at our facility, we hang it to dry first. All rugs scheduled for pick up must be rolled and ready for loading. Whether bringing them to us or having us pick them up from you please make sure all rugs are thoroughly vacuumed first.

Cleaning process

Rugs are gently placed on the cleaning area floor and vacuumed.  Our skilled technician inspects the area rugs for soil, and, at this time, he applies spotting agents as needed. Next, the area rugs are cleaned with “The Natural”, a non-toxic, plant-based solution.

Protecting Process

For a brand new rug, we apply the Protectant and hang your rug to dry in our temperature- and humidity-controlled rug bay.  For an older rug, we co-apply the Protectant with the cleaning.

Drying

After your rug is cleaned and/or protected, we hang it in our temperature- and humidity-controlled rug bay to allow a speedy and efficient drying process.

Final Inspection and Wrapping

Each rug is inspected to check the quality of cleaning and for any issues that might need attention.  Notes are made as to the condition of the rug, and the rug is then approved for wrapping.  Your rug is rolled and wrapped in brown kraft paper to ensure that it is kept clean and free of any debris before being returned to you.

Repairs

We repair braided rug stitching. We will need to inspect the rug to determine if it is repairable, and to provide you with an estimate.

Care and Maintenance Tips

  • Vacuum your area rug regularly.  Household dust that is allowed to accumulate can cause discoloration of the rug.  Light-colored areas look grayish; darker-colored areas tend to look darker.

  • If something spills on your area rug, take care of the spill immediately.  Use a white cloth or towel, and blot the spilled substance. Be sure to have a stain extinguisher on hand for emergencies and for use between professional cleanings.  We recommend Chem-Dry’s Professional Strength Spot Remover.  The carbonation in the solution lifts the soil to the surface for easy removal.
  • Try Chem-Dry’s Carpet Deodorizer!  It’s easy to use and requires no vacuuming.  It provides a long-lasting, time-release fragrance and also helps to protect the rug from resoiling.
  • If you have pets, you know that accidents happen.  When it happens on your area rug, be sure to have both our Chem-Dry Spot Remover and the Carpet Deodorizer on hand.  Proper use of these two products helps to maintain your rug and provide you with peace of mind. For more severe or frequent accidents, we recommend a professional cleaning. See our section on Pet Urine Removal Treatment (P.U.R.T).
